Terminology Bulletin 289
The idea of a glossary on remote predictive mapping (RPM) came about after speaking with a specialist from Natural Resources Canada about the Government of Canada's priorities on matters related to earth science. At that time, RPM was gaining ground in Canada as the new technique for geological mapping.
The first step in creating the glossary was to gather as much information on the topic as possible and from the most reliable sources. A corpus of recent articles, mainly published in English by leaders in the field, was established. The second step was to extract the English terminology from these sources and from talks given at the 33rd Canadian Symposium on Remote Sensing in June 2012. Lastly, due to a lack of French sources, subject-field experts were called upon to validate the proposed equivalents.
The Remote Predictive Mapping Glossary is the result of in-depth terminological research and consultations with experts. It contains approximately 250 of the major concepts in the field of RPM.
